Lok Sabha Elections: The AIADMK severed its ties with the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on September 25, 2023.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) released its first list of candidates on March 20 for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, as per an ANI report.


AIADMK General Secretary, who released this list, said, "In the AIADMK coalition, DMDMK will be competing for 5 seats, SDPI for 1 seat, and Puthiya Tamilagam for 1 seat within the Tenkasi constituency", as cited by ANI.

The first list of 16 candidates comprises J Jayavardhan (Chennai South constituency), Royapuram Manohar (Chennai North), E Rajasekhar (Kancheepuram), AL Vijayan (Arakkonam), V Jayaprakash (Krishnagiri), GV Gajendran (Arani), J Bhagyaraj (Villupuram), P Vignesh (Salem), S Tamilmani (Namakkal), Ashok Kumar (Erode), KRL Thangavel (Karur), M Chandrahasan (Chidambaram), P Saravanan (Madurai), VT Narayanasamy (Theni), and P Jeyaperumal (Virudhunagar).

The AIADMK severed its ties with the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on September 25, 2023. The party said the BJP had been making "unnecessary remarks about AIADMK's former leaders".

Tamil Nadu, among the southern states, contributes the largest contingent of parliamentarians to the Lok Sabha with a total of 39 seats. Out of these, 32 seats are unreserved, while the remaining seven are designated for candidates from the Scheduled Caste community.

As the 2024 general elections approach, there is a fervent campaign being conducted by the BJP, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and the Congress party, all part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, to mobilise support among the populace.

Tamil Nadu will vote for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in a single phase on April 19 and the counting will take place on June 4, the Election Commission has announced.

The ECI declared the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections on March 16. Spanning seven phases, the general election is set to commence on April 19 and conclude on June 1, with the results slated for announcement on June 4.
