External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the News18 Network's 'News18 Rising Bharat Summit' Rising Bharat Summit emphasising India’s moment and its growth in the coming years.
The EAM compared the state of governance in the nation under former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Here are the key points he highlighted about the Nehruvian governance and its difference with the Narendra Modi-led government:
>> "In the earlier years, it was a Nehruvian ideological bubble where Nehru said we must be against the US and a friend of China so everyone followed-- the vestiges of those continue,".
>> "I am not saying today that let's look back at 1950. This isn't about being hind sighted. These are only contemporary questioning of certain decisions that were taken by Nehru back then".
>> "I am placing before the younger generation historial situations where certain roads weren't taken, which were available. We need to get out of this cult worship that everything from 1946 were great years. And Nehru's foreign policy was such an impeccable theology and anyone in the government today should follow it".
>> "We were alienating the Americans on behalf of China back in the 1950s. We were taking up China's cause. In 1950, we spoilt our relationship with America because we were arguing on behalf of China."
>> "Nehru was against America, so everybody went against America".
